Wisdom Tooth Removal in Rancho Cucamonga

Wisdom teeth or third molars are the last teeth to come into the mouth. They are in development from ages 12-15 years of age in your jaw bone and emerge in your mouth from ages 17-25 years of age. Most individuals have 4 wisdom teeth, but some have less. When a tooth doesn’t fully emerge properly and is stuck under the gums or bone, then it is called “impacted.” This often occurs when there isn’t enough room to accomodate them. At least 90% of people have at least 1 impacted wisdom tooth.

Why Should I Have My Wisdom Teeth Removed?

Wisdom Teeth Presentation

To provide you with a better understanding of wisdom teeth, we have provided the following multimedia presentation. Many common questions pertaining to wisdom teeth are discussed.

Wisdom Teeth Presentation

An impacted wisdom tooth can problems and should be removed if the have:

  • cavities
  • gum (periodontal) disease
  • infections
  • pathologies such as cysts or tumors
  • cause damage to neighboring teeth.

When is the best time to remove wisdom teeth?

An appropriate consultation and exam will help determine if the wisdom teeth are problematic or potentially can cause problems in the future. Often, it is better to remove them while they are still developing because there is less potential risk of nerve injury, they are easier to remove and recovery is easier when patients are younger.

Risks

Like any surgery, there are inherent risks to wisdom teeth surgery. Expected problems that occur include pain, bleeding and swelling. We offer medications and strategies to minimize this. Unexpected problems can also occur, and these include:

  • Dry socket: problem in healing that causes extreme pain around day 4-5 after surgery. Usually occurs with lower wisdom teeth and risk factors include smoking and birth control pills.
  • Infection: very uncommon in young, healthy individuals. We prescribe antibiotics pills or mouthwash to avoid this
  • Nerve injury: There are 2 sensory nerves that near the lower wisdom teeth. With our 3D imaging, we are able to predict who is at higher risk for nerve problems and can offer alternative methods of treatment.

Anesthesia Considerations

Removing wisdom teeth is not a pleasant experience. Oral & maxillofacial surgeons are trained in delivering IV sedation/anesthesia and we can put you to sleep for this procedure.

The worst thing to do is IGNORE your wisdom teeth!

The staff was very welcoming and friendly during the whole process. They made it very quick and easy for the procedure even during the pandemic. I loved how they put so many different items in their post-surgery care and that helped me recover at a fast pace. They are also very available for any questions I had after the surgery. I have a younger sister who is going to need her wisdom teeth extracted as well and my family is definitely going to go to the same services.

Excellent service and treatment. Very little pain or discomfort after the removal of a wisdom tooth and back molar. I can’t remember the name of the girl that prepared me for the procedure but she was very friendly and put me at ease.

Dr. Danny Kim is an excellent oral surgeon! I brought my 2 daughters to have their wisdom teeth extracted and everything went well. He even called us the next day to check on the well being of my daughters. The staff members at the Glendora office were very accommodating. They were able to schedule my daughter at a very convenient time for us for a follow up appointment. I would also like to add that the smoothie given to my daughters after their teeth extraction was a welcome surprise!

this place is so friendly and treat you more than just a patient. they make sure to answer all your questions thoroughly and make you feel very comfortable. as someone who put off getting their wisdom teeth done for five years and dealing with the pain this was the perfect place to have the surgery done. they are very upfront and explain everything in detail. they also make you feel very comfortable. from making the appointment over the phone to the leaving after my procedure was done everything was very smooth. also another to mention with COVID-19/pandemic they are very accommodating. you see everything get cleaned and wiped down after every person, they all wear their mask properly, and keep the proper distance.

KUDOS!! FIRST CLASS SERVICE!! Thank you Dr. Dudziak, Rebecca, Genesis and Mary Anne. I could not have asked for a more professional experience. Everything went well from the time I arrived on June 2nd for x-rays and consultation (first day); to the actual extraction of my wisdom tooth (second day). Surgery seemed like only a few minutes. The next thing I knew, Mary Anne was taking me down the elevator in a wheelchair to my car. The following day, she called to check on me and I was recovering well. Again, thank you sooooooo much!! I was referred by Dr. Daniel Rivera.
