Corrective Jaw Surgery in Rancho Cucamonga
Orthognathic surgery, or corrective jaw surgery, addresses skeletal issues that cause a bad bite. There are instances when orthodontics alone cannot fit a bite issue and jaw corrective surgery is necessary for an ideal result. Orthodontics alone can correct bite problems when only the teeth are involved. Orthognathic surgery may be required for the jaws when repositioning is necessary.

Why do you have a bad bite?
Typically, a bad bite is hereditary and is a result of irregular, but normal growth. Sometimes, a patient can have a growth disturbance (from trauma) or a condition that causes excess growth in the jaw bones.
The result can be a host of problems that can affect chewing function, speech, long-term oral health and appearance.
Difficulty in the following areas should be evaluated:
- Difficulty in chewing, biting or swallowing
- Speech problems
- Chronic jaw or TMJ pain
- Sleep related disorders
Orthognathic Surgery Presentation
To provide you with a better understanding of orthognathic surgery, we have provided the following multimedia presentation. Many common questions pertaining to orthognathic surgery are discussed.
We know that undergoing surgery is a big decision. We require 2 visits so that we can do our very best to understand your problem and concerns. Before we meet, we would like for you to fill out our orthognathic questionnaire form. The first visit will involve collection of records including a 3D CT scan, impressions for dental models, photographs, clinical measurements and a discussion of goals/expectations of treatment. The records will be studied, analyzed and on the second visit, we will discuss your particular problem, present a treatment plan and discuss the details of surgical treatment. Sometimes, we are even able to offer a prediction of what you would look like after surgery.
Virtual Surgical Planning & Orthognathic Surgery
Dr. Choi uses modern computer techniques and three-dimensional models to show you exactly how your surgery will be approached. Using comprehensive facial x-rays and computer video imaging, we can show you how your bite will be improved and even give you an idea of how you’ll look after surgery. This helps you understand the surgical process and the extent of the treatment prescribed. Our goal is to help you understand the benefits of orthognathic surgery. We also plan your surgery virtually on computer models for the most accurate result. Refer to VSP orthognathics for more detail regarding this exciting new technology.
If you are a candidate for corrective jaw surgery, we will work closely with your dentist and orthodontist during your treatment. The actual surgery can move your teeth and jaws into a new position that results in a more attractive, functional, and healthy dental-facial relationship.
Treatment of orthognathic surgery is often covered under your medical insurance plan.

Matthew E. Dudziak, DDS,MD did my tooth implant several years ago. He did a wonderful job and I am very satisfied with the results. So I have had a torrid (like a bone spur attached to a tooth) for over a decade. Insurance does not cover its removal. Everyone including my dentist tried to talk me out of getting it removed. I heard lots of horror stories from friends who said it was very painful. But I’m 65 and window for getting annoying things like this fixed is closing. So I got another referral from my dentist, because Dr. Dudziak did great with my implanted tooth. And yes I had to pay for it. That being said, I am VERY pleased with my decision. That bump is gone. That bump always hurt when I had a cold. My mouth feels NORMAL. I did not have any bleeding afterwards. A little sensitivity that Motrin knocks out. I am very pleased. Every bad thing that they said might happen has not happened . Since this was not an aggressive torrid I do not expect it to grow back.

The entire staff was friendly and professional. The office was clean. They didn't waste time. I got scheduled in immediately and was examined, then explained my options. The price for work is fair. I opted to not be put to sleep for the procedure due to my financial situation. Dr. Choi made me comfortable and did my surgery. He also personally did my follow up care phone call a few days later to see that I was o.k. The only thing I can complain about is he couldn't clean up my dirty mouth. I still swear like a sailor. All joking aside I highly recommend this office for your needs, you won't be disappointed.

My daughter had been referred to several doctor's which we interviewed before meeting with Dr. Choi, but none were as informative, or as polite and sensitive to my daughter's needs as Dr. Choi and his staff. The other doctors completely missed issues that Dr. Choi covered with us in detail. Although my daughter was very concerned about how she would look after the procedure which would entail changing the shape of her lower face and jaw, Dr. Choi and his staff's friendly professionalism assured us that we had made the right choice in selecting Dr. Choi. Dr. Choi's credentials are impeccable, and it was obvious to my daughter and I, that he is very knowledgeable, and meticulous in his work, while at the same time having a very quiet and approachable manner about him, creating a very calming and assuring atmosphere for my daughter who was nervous about the procedure. Dr. Choi and his staff reviewed the comprehensive procedure with us several times in his office, and also provided us with a picture showing what she would look like after the procedure. The staff's compassion, efficient and personable care to my daughter was very effective in calming her fears. We were continuously assured that we had made the right choice by selecting Dr. Choi and his staff by their competent, and caring nature. My daughter required multiple procedures involving three doctors; Dr. Choi handled the most comprehensive 7 hour procedure and coordinated with the other two doctors. The procedures required 6 months of preparatory work prior to the main 7 hour procedure and another 6 months of post-operative work afterwards. During that time, Dr. Choi and his staff went out of their way to resolve any issues that came up; problems were encountered with the insurance coverage and Dr. Choi offered to continue his work at a discounted rate, rather than subject my daughter to starting the six month preparatory work all over again, or delay the procedure. This was especially important since we had timed all the preparatory and post-procedural work to occur during the school year, but the 7 hour procedure was timed to occur between College semesters so that my daughter would have the most time for recovery and wouldn't lose time from school or her priority registration for the next semester, either of which would have set her College graduation back several months, or more. Dr. Choi even went out of his way after the procedure by personally driving to his office (while he everybody in his office was on vacation during the holidays) to hand-deliver a script for her pain medication (laws had changed the month before the procedure and the script couldn't be called in, or faxed to the pharmacy anymore, only an original hard-copy script would be accepted). His staff even sent my daughter flowers, and gave her movie tickets after the procedure. Dr. Choi and his Staff are competent, while being very friendly, and compassionate to you and your needs and make you feel right at home; they go out of their way to make your office visit comfortable, greeting you by name, and offering flavored coffee, tea, or bottled water upon your arrival. They even have a rear entry point so that you don't have to enter through the waiting room with bandages on your face. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Choi and his staff, but suffice it to say, that I would highly recommend them to anyone needing his services. Dan C. 2014-2015

I recently had orthognathic surgery with Dr. Choi. Before that, I also had my wisdom teeth pulled at this office. From beginning to end, my experience has been exceptional. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Dr. Choi is very professional, knowledgable and well experienced. I always felt very comfortable in the whole process. All my questions were answered and if I needed anything, the staff was always very helpful. I felt like everyone went above and beyond. I never would have thought having jaw surgery would be such a great experience.
Dr. Choi performed jaw surgery on my son. It was a major surgery and I was happily surprised when post-op, I saw only a small, minor stitch on each side of his cheek. I don’t know how he cut both his upper and lower jaws, realigned both and did this all through his mouth, since it seems like there would be little room to maneuver. He was professional from the start, obviously is very skilled, answered my numerous questions and coordinated the treatment with my son’s orthodontist. I know that my son’s orthodontist (who is well-known and also highly skilled), was impressed as well and is keeping Dr. Choi’s contact info for future referrals.
Thank you Dr. Choi especially for understanding a mother’s anxiety in this type of situation and not making me feel like an over-the-top pain in the rear mom.
