Traditionally, the tooth replacement process with dental implants from start to finish takes 8 months involving 2 procedures – tooth extraction with socket grafting and dental implant placement with 4 months of healing after each procedure. In certain situations, dental implants can be placed at the same time as tooth removal. Thus, you undergo fewer procedures and your healing period is cut in half to 4 months.

Ideal Candidates for Immediate Implants

The ideal situation for immediate implants is one where significant bone loss does not exist, and there is enough bone availability around the extraction socket to anchor the dental implant.  This is best determined with 3D imaging and clinical exam.

Immediate Implants in Esthetic Zone

For front teeth, immediate implants are advantageous because a temporary tooth can be placed on the implant for you to wear during your 4-month healing phase to optimize esthetics. You will never be without a front tooth, and you do not have to deal with a removable temporary.
