Impacted Canines Icon

The most common teeth to be impacted in the mouth other than third molars or wisdom teeth are canines. When there is insufficient space and teeth crowding, an adult canine can be stuck underneath the gum tissue and bone and unable to emerge into the mouth naturally. This requires a combination of surgery to expose the tooth and orthodontics to help guide the tooth appropriately into the mouth.

Your orthodontist will recognize this problem and typically refer to us for this procedure.

Treatment for Impacted Canines

The procedure to expose an impacted canine in most cases is relatively minor but depends on the location of the tooth. A gold button with a chain is bonded to the surface of the impacted tooth and then attached to the orthodontic wire. Your orthodontist will attach a power chain and slowly bring the tooth into the mouth.
