TMJ Arthrocentesis

TMJ Arthrocentesis

Arthrocentesis lysis and lavage is a minimally invasive procedure used to decrease joint pain and increase the range of motion. Sterile fluid is flushed through two ports in the joint to eliminate stagnant fluid and gently stretch the joint. The process reverses negative pressure that interfer with joint disk mobility as well as chemicals that cause pain and inflammation. At the end of the procedure, medications that lubricate or help reduce inflammation may be placed in the TMJ. Arthrocentesis may be performed in the office under IV sedation.
